Christ established His church here on earth, that where 2 or 3 were gathered together, He is there also. Never were we meant to travel this pilgrimage alone, though there are times we may feel so, we must remember it is a feeling not fact.

Prayer Request

"Please be in prayer for a young couple who are facing the loss of their 3 year old daughter. The mother has bipolar disorder; social services has removed the child from the home and is moving to terminate parental rights and place the child for adoption. The parents are devastated. They are wonderful parents who have struggled with an extremely difficult illness. The mother is stable and compliant; the child is not and never has been in any danger. She loves her parents and the constant movement to different foster care placements is beginning to cause negative behavioral changes. There is no rational reason for removing the child from the family home at this point.Please pray that God's wisdom and justice will prevail.

"Lord, this is the type of request that breaks my heart and grieves my soul. I am reminded of Your own words, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing." In faith and obedience, we share this burden that is weighing so heavily upon this young family. Hide this precious child in Your grace and let her feel Your love all around her. Send the angels of heaven to protect her wherever she may be. Lord, grant Your divine compassion and wisdom to those who are making decisions on this child's behalf. May this family experience the fullness of Your peace and the reassurance that You are working in this situation to accomplish Your divine purpose. We ask these things in Your precious and holy name. Amen.

Finding Your Purpose, Each and Every Day

Jeremiah tells us: "I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope."
Reflecting and praying about our purpose — whether for today, the week ahead, or the rest of our lives — is the key to discovering God's plan, designed just for us.
By taking just two minutes (preferably before the day gets too crazy) to align your day with your overall goals, your purpose will be better illuminated.
What steps have you taken to discover your true purpose today?

Do You Have a Healthy Mind-set?

When we start the day with specific goals in mind, we give ourselves time to reflect on what's really important. To achieve our health goals, defining our purpose that day is as important as exercising and eating the proper foods.

Knowing Who God Is

God is our Heavenly Father.
He creates. He loves to create.
He made us. We are His.
God is LOVE.
God is faithful.
God is patient.
God will never fail you.
God will never forsake you.
HE is worthy of praise.
HE never grows faint or weary.

In our ever-changing world, families move, friendships drift, allegiances shift, and technology advances by quantum leaps. If we seek security in people, possessions, or positions, we’re doomed to disappointment.
Yet we all need somewhere to turn during the storms of life. The only true anchor for our souls is Jesus Christ, who Scripture assures us will not change. To find comfort in Him, we must learn who He is, what He does, and how He works. Today we will explore a few details about His life and character.
John 1:1 reveals that Jesus was Deity from the beginning. Fully God and fully man, He was born of a virgin, lived 33 years on the earth, was crucified despite His innocence, and rose after three days. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life—the Christ, the Son of the Living God (John 14:6; Matt. 16:16-17). Our Lord fulfilled countless prophesies in the Old Testament, such as Isaiah 53. Like us, Jesus has feelings—He wept for hurting people and felt angry when people misused the temple. Most importantly, His resurrection defeated death, and He still lives today.
God’s character never varies. Of course, as situations change, He acts accordingly. But the merciful, loving, compassionate, and holy Jesus we know in Scripture is the same Messiah we can cling to today.
Where do you turn in trying times? Difficult circumstances are inevitable. Prepare yourself for them by learning who Jesus is—He’s the only true shelter and rock that will not change. What a wonderful Savior!

As a believer, you have the power of the Holy Spirit inside you.
But that power won't go to work until you put it to work!
The Holy Spirit won't just muscle in on you.
He won't come in and turn down the television set and jerk you up off the couch and say, "Now you listen to me."
No, He's a gentleman.
He's sent to help you to do the will of God, to strengthen you, to counsel you...but He won't do a thing until He's asked. That's why the book of James says if you're in trouble or afflicted, pray.
It's prayer that puts the power within you to work.
The Holy Spirit has some things He wants to show you--things you've been trying to figure out on your own.
He's waiting there with the power to overcome every obstacle in your life.
Take time to pray.
Pray in the Spirit.
Pray with understanding.
Pray and activate the power that worketh within you today.

I pray this for each of you this day. I thank God in advance for taking care of us all. He know Who & What we need this day and HE is faithful to His promises.
In all things Heavenly Father, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ your son. Amen

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you.

Dear Heavenly Father,
My prayer is for my cousin Raney. We hear what he is going through and the love and concern he has for others that are aching for him in this illness. He is precious to our family. Hearts are hurting and missing him before He leaves to come home Father. We continue to ask you to spare him , heal him, so he can stay with us longer. I know your time and our time is not the same and if you decide he must come home, we look forward to the day when the circle will be complete again there in heaven. We ask Father that you bless each of us with the spiritual gifts we need for acceptance of your will. Please be merciful unto Raney that his pain be bearable and the love from his family surrounding him will bring him peace. In Jesus name I ask, Amen

I asked everyone for their prayers for Twyla Roman, a member of our planning committee, whose husband is very ill. There are other members of our support group who also need our prayers, specifically Barbara Miller and Barbara Kennedy, both of whom are recovering from surgery.

Anita is a woman with a grateful heart. She was unemployed and during that time she lost her home and her car, but she doesn't complain. She now has a job at Publix; she's so thankful she doesn't even mind walking 3 miles to and from work. Anita has learned to be content, whatever her circumstances.

Father, thank You for Anita and for her example of gratefulness. Despite her losses and disappointments, her heart is filled with gratitude. She has learned to look beyond the hardships to see the blessings. Lord, in love and faith I lift Anita before You today, asking that You would open the windows of Heaven and pour out a blessing so great she will not be able to contain it. And thank You for those who have shown her kindness and offered encouragement; bless them for their generosity of spirit. Unite us in Your love and employ us as instruments of Your grace, in Jesus' name. Amen.

One of our members has requested prayer for a friend who is having family issues that have overflowed into her work life. This situation is causing her extreme sadness and concern. "Please ask the warriors to lift this friend and her family to the Lord for strength, resilience and understanding to continue on the journey that He has laid before them, and to believe that they will come through it with and by His glory."

Father, Your grace touches us long before we even know You. You came to earth that we might have Life, in its fullest and most perfect form. This is possible only through You. We are privileged and blessed to carry the needs of others to You in prayer. We join our hearts in prayer for this woman who is suffering through issues in her family. We pray that You would be her strength when her resources are gone, and that You would be the divine wisdom that enables her to do what is best in each situation with each individual. We pray for Your love and mercy to unite this family, and heal broken relationships. We acknowledge that You can work through conflict to accomplish Your divine purpose, and we pray to that end, in the healing name of Jesus, Amen.

Please be praying for Billie who had open heart surgery today. He had a heart attack yesterday while at a friend's house (who lives 1 mile from the hospital; EMT's were there in less than 2 minutes). "He was so close to excellent care. I'm praying and I'm asking our prayer group for prayers that God will continue to look out for Billie as He did yesterday."

Father, what comfort to know that You see, hear and know the needs of Your children. The foundation of our faith and hope is Your immanent care. We join our hearts and spirits in prayer for Billie today, and in faith we lift him before Your throne of grace. Heal him according to Your divine purpose and in Your perfect time. Draw near to those who wait anxiously at his bedside; may they feel Your presence and experience Your perfect peace. We praise You and thank You for Your mighty works, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Cate, I am so sorry that I have not responded to you about Jaime. I confess it got lost in a sea of email and I just noticed it. I am currently handling the responsibilities of two jobs (I think I may be too old for this!). I know this had to be overwhelming for you and for her, with your household finances already being stretched thin. As a daughter, I am sure she feels bad about adding another worry to your load. As a mother, I know you are worried about additional stress on her health. God is able. Someone once told me, "God may sometimes be slow, but He's never late." He knew about this accident and the insurance long ago and I am confident He has a plan in place.

Please be praying for my daughter Jaime. Her GPS had her lost on the highway. She made an illegal turn and when the police stopped her the car insurance had expired !!! In addition to this she rear ended another vehicle that had stopped suddenly to turn into a gas station. Her car is undriveable. She will be going to court and her car is a must for her job. She has a lot to lose and is literaly sick with worry. I'm worried about her physically and emotionally. This will be a great hardship for our family as we share household expenses and savings are non-existent with car payments and school loans and well we all know how it goes. Sad part was she was looking for more affordable car insurance, but we know that won't wash in court. She has not been home since the accident staying with friends that are able to drive her to work for now. This on top of the migraines headaches. I've heard the story about God and the tapestry, we look up and see the tangled threads, HE sees the beauty of the finished product. How I long to see the finished product too! God bless you and thank you for your prayers.I just received an urgent request for a family for whom we have been praying. This mother has been advised of a court date on December 2. Lenders have petitioned the court to allow them to repossess her car and the house. She will then have 10 days to make arrangements with the lenders to surrender the properties. She and her three little boys will be homeless, with no transportation, sometime during the first week in December. "Please pray for us as I tell the boys and try to find a place for us to live."

Merciful Father, my heart is grieved for this woman of faith who is dealing with abandonment and overwhelming loss. Yet this one thing I know - the extent of our grief and loss can never be compared to what You give in return. When we can't escape our circumstances, help us to trust in Your divine plan. Lord, You knew this family would be required to make this journey before the first step was taken, and I am confident that You will provide what is needed in ways we could never expect or imagine. My prayer is for the doubts and fears to be removed, and for Your perfect peace and love to fill that void. Work through Your children to support and encourage this precious family, and may their sorrow soon be turned to joy. Bless them exceedingly abundantly beyond all they could hope or imagine, and keep them always in Your tender care, in Jesus' name. Amen

Request - Divorced Mother

Please be praying for a woman whose husband left her and their three young sons after he lost his job. They are now divorced and officially bankrupt. Her job at a Christian school is not sufficient, so she is trying desperately to find a job that will provide enough income for the family. The prayers and support of family and friends are what keeps her going.

Father, when we feel as if all hope and joy is gone, we are blessed in the knowledge that we live in Your manifest presence. In times of greatest need we remember Your mercy and run to You for Your unfailing compassion and restoration. There are those in this prayer group who have felt the abandonment of a husband and the pain of broken vows and promises. In love and faith, we lift the needs of this woman and her family before You. We pray that she will experience the width and length and depth and height of Your love which surpasses our understanding. Lead her to the job You have prepared for her and grant her every skill she will need to perform her responsibilities there. Bless her faith and her faithfulness, exceedingly abundantly beyond all she could hope or imagine, in the blessed name of Jesus. Amen

Dear Linda,

As you know so much has been happening in our family that I am not able to keep up. As Thanksgiving approaches, emotions are still running high and all that has happened has not totally been absorbed as we struggle to cope in God's grace. My sister reminded me this morning of the 23rd Psalm and all the hope it promises us. Trying to relax and rest in the Lord is trying at times as you want to pray," Lord grant me patience, but hurry!" (grin)

Each day the Lord has taken care of us through all the ups and downs. Mema is now in the nursing home and settling in after the craziness of the hospital sending her there without an order for her dementia medicine of all things!! That created havoc and a suicide watch for Mother. Jaime has decided to remain with me for now which means I don't have to jump at any job offer just to have an income. Perhaps God is opening the doors for me to take care of personal health issues before I go back out in the work force. That remains to be seen and in prayer. Jaime's first court date found all charges to be dismissed with a hefty fine that her boyfriend advanced her the money for. God moved his heart to be so generous and caring. Her next court date is scheduled for December 23 for the car accident she pled not guilty in.

My teapot full of hot water broke the other day as I lifted it from the stove and I was burned on my stomach. Thankfully my guardian angel stepped in and kept it from being worse than it could have been. I was barefooted and my feet are fine. With ice packs and a gel formula Jaime and Mike went and fetched from the drugstore, blisters were minimal and I should recuperate nicely.

I have been sick with laryngitis and an upper respiratory infection. Sounds like a soap opera segment doesn't it? Haha.

I truly believe Satan works harder at the holidays, but I have asked God to bind him and to keep me focused on what God wants for me. It is such a time of crossroads, a new chapter. We all struggle with these passages in life and it is so wonderful to know we can share our cares and pray for one another.

I pray we may all continue to be lifted up before the Lord and remember our blessings we have received and the ones to come and thank God always. May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Much love, Cate

Mr. Raney Dewayne Barnes, 69, of Ash Flat, Arkansas, passed away July 23 at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday, July 26 at Roller Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 P.M. at Roller Funeral Chapel, conducted by Joey Barnes. Entombment will follow in the Baxter Memorial Garden Mausoleum of Peace.
Mr. Barnes was born Feb. 9, 1939 in Parkin, Arkansas to Theodore and Virginia Whitehorn Barnes. He married Jean Patterson on Nov. 25, 1983 in Rochelle, Illinois. He was a Navy veteran and employed by Chrysler for many years. Mr. Barnes was involved in the lay ministry of his church, Abundant Life .
He is survived by his wife, Jean Barnes of Ash Flat; 3 sisters: Shirley Shoemaker of Ft. Smith, Janie Eldridge of Jonesboro and Ginger Williams of Illinois.
2 step-sons: Don Beasley and Steven Beasley, both of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and 2 brothers.

Ruby J. Witt, 90, of Memphis Tennessee passed away Jaunary 26, 2009 in Memphis. She was a former resident of both Wynne and Helena-West Helena, Arkansas. Mrs. Witt was born June 17, 1918 to the late Alexander L. and Martha Ann Gray Barnes. She was a retired dental assistant. Her husband Warren Witt preceded her in death in 1998, son Warren Witt Jr. in 1966 and great-granddaughter Annabel Witt, 2003.

She is survived by a son, Gary Witt of Memphis, Tennessee; 1 sister, Gladys Strauss of Akron, Ohio; grandsons, Warner (Christy) Witt of San Franciso, CA , Harrison Witt of Memphis TN. and a special niece, Tara Burton of Memphis.

Graveside services for Mrs. Witt will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at Sunset Memorial park in West Helena. The Reverand Rodger Hooker will officiate.

W.E. Kerby,91,of Ozark,Missouri went to his eternal rest on Monday, January 26,2009. He was a resident of Helena-West Helelna, Arkansas for almost 80 years and was the owner of Kerby's Aluminum Products. He was a vetern of WWII. His wife Mary Louise Kerby preceded him in death in 1992 and great-granddaughter, Annabel Witt in 2003. He is survuved by 4 children (MaryLane), 7 grandchildren (Warner Witt), and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Roller- Citizens Funeral Home. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholiic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Helena.

Raney Barnes July 23, 2008

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that Raney went to be with the Lord this morning (Wed, July 23) around 3am. I am glad he isn't suffering anymore and when he took his last breath, he awoke with a brand new body with no more pain and suffering. The Lord did answer our prayers for him to be healed; He gave him eternal healing. I am sad though because I will miss him so. I am so thankful that the Lord allowed me to be with him as often as I did and that he was alert this past visit and knew me and knew when I told him I loved him. He was able to tell me in his own voice that he loved me, too.

His visitation and funeral service will be on the same day at Roller Funeral Home, 25 County Rd 27 (Hwy 5 North @ Walker Rd.), Mountain Home, AR 72653. If needed, the phone number is (870) 425-2161. When I looked it up on mapquest for directions, the address was 25 County Rd. 27, but Jean had given me the other one in parenthesis.

The time for visitation is 1pm on Saturday, July 26 and the funeral service is 3pm on the same day.

Please continue to pray for Jean. Raney was her life and I can only imagine how awful it would be. It is bad enough to lose Raney as a brother. When they became married, they truly BECAME ONE, so this is very hard for her. Pray also for her children and grandchildren because they were very close to Raney, too. And of course, we sisters (Shirley, Janie, and myself) need prayer, too.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the prayers you have prayed during the past 4/5 months. It would have really been unbearable without the prayers.

Pennies from Heaven

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene , was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.. As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment. Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny. He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up? Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally,
she could stand it no longer.. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value. A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this? "Look at it." He said. "Read what it says!." She read the words " United States of America ""No, not that, read further.""One cent?" "No, keep reading." "In God we Trust?" "Yes!" "And?""And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful! When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message. It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient..

FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY HOLIDAY

In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter & Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews & observances of their holy days. The argument was it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized day(s).The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, 'Case dismissed.' The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, 'Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter & others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur & Hanukkah. Yet my client & all other atheists have no such holidays.' The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, 'But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant.'
The lawyer said, 'Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists.' The judge said, 'The calendar says April 1st is 'April Fools Day.' Psalm 14:1 states 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned. Amen!

It's quiet. It's early. My coffee is hot. The sky is still black. The world is still asleep. The day is coming.
In a few moments, it will arrive, roaring down the track with the rising of the sun. The stillness of the dawn will be exchanged for the noise of the day.
The calm of the solitude will be replaced by the pounding pace of the human race.
The refuge of the early morning will be invaded by decisions to be made and deadlines to be met. For the next twelve hours, I will be exposed to the day's demands.
It is now that I must make a choice.

I choose love. No occasion justifies hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. Today I will love God and all that He loves.
I choose joy. I will invite God to be the God of circumstance. I will refuse the temptation to be cynical...the tool of the lazy thinker. I will refuse to see people as anything less than God's creations. I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God.
I choose peace. I will live forgiven. I will forgive as God has forgiven me, so that I may enjoy life to the fullest.
I choose patience. I will overlook the inconveniences of the world. Instead of cursing the one who darts in front of me, I'll invite him to do so. Rather than complaining that the wait is too long, I will thank God for a moment to pray. Instead of clinching my jaw at new assignments, I will face them with joy and courage.
I choose kindness. I will be kind to the poor and homeless, for they are alone. I will be kind to the rich and not feel envious of their wealth. And I will be kind to the unkind, for that is how God has treated me.
I choose goodness. I will go without a dollar before I take a dishonest one. I will be overlooked before I will boast. I will confess before I will accuse.
I choose faithfulness. Today I will keep my promises. My debtors will not regret their trust in me. My associates will not question my word. My spouse will not question my love. And my children will never fear whether I will be there for them.
I choose gentleness. Nothing is won by force. If I raise my voice, may it only be in praise. If I clench my fist, may it only be in prayer. If I make a demand, may it only be of myself.
I choose self-control. I am a spiritual being. After this body is dead, my spirit will soar. I refuse to let the flesh rule the eternal. I will be drunk only by joy. I will be impassioned only by my faith. I will be influenced only by God.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control....the fruits of God's spirit.

To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek His grace. And then when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow once again and rest.

LOVE FROM GOD

God's Perfect Love
READ 1 John 4:7-9
We were created to be members of God’s family and recipients of His perfect love. Through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus, He demonstrated just how much He loves us. When we receive Christ as our Savior, we become His children. We experience His unconditional love. Divine affection for us doesn’t vary in quality or quantity. It’ll never end or even diminish. No circumstance can cause the Lord to stop loving us.We see these truths lived out in the lives of three people in the New Testament.First, consider the Roman soldier who asked Jesus to heal his servant. The soldier’s request wasn’t ignored because he wasn’t one of the Jews, which were God’s chosen people. Seeing the man’s genuine faith, the Lord granted his request out of love for him.Jesus also extended His forgiving love to the crucified thief who confessed his guilt and expressed faith in Christ.And lastly, before his conversion, the apostle Paul was convinced Jesus wasn’t the promised Messiah. Paul believed His followers must be stopped. To that end, Paul persecuted the Christian Jews and uttered murderous threats against the church. God’s love didn’t even skip over one so violently opposed to His children. On the road to Damascus, the Lord appeared to Paul with an offer of salvation and gave him a great work to do. He asked Paul to spread His word to the Gentile world.The human mind can’t fully comprehend divine love. In Christ, thieves, persecutors, and those who may look like outsiders are all equally loved.

A God of Love

The Lord doesn’t base His love for us on our character or achievements. We know this because of God’s promise in John 3:16 and His action in sending Jesus to die in our place.The Savior’s dealings with people show us the depth of God’s love. Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ disciples, ministered closely with the Lord for three years. In the end, Judas chose to betray Jesus. Even though Jesus knew what Judas would do, He never rejected him. In another example of God’s love, a woman was about to be stoned for committing adultery. She was condemned by the religious leaders. Jesus stepped in to protect her. Then, in love, He commanded her to sin no more.And consider Peter. He loved Jesus and desired to follow Him always. In a moment of weakness however, Peter denied even knowing Christ. Jesus knew in advance the disciple would do this. But Jesus’ love for the man didn’t waver. In fact Jesus proved his love by appearing to Peter after the resurrection. Jesus gave Peter a prominent place in developing the church.Two final examples of God’s love include Zacchaeus, the greedy tax collector. He took advantage of his fellow citizens. And the Samaritan woman involved with a string of broken relationships and an immoral lifestyle. These facts didn’t stop Jesus from approaching each of them and offering His forgiving love.No one is beyond the reach of God’s love. Through faith in Him, everyone, even the worst of sinners, can experience love’s richness as His children.

Blood of Jesus

July 12, 2008 One night in a church service a young woman felt the tug of God at her heart. She Responded to God's call and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. The young woman had a very rough past, involving alcohol, drugs, and prostitution. But, the change in her was evident. As time went on she became a faithful member of the church. She eventually became involved in the ministry, teaching young children. It was not very long until this faithful young woman had caught the eye and heart of the pastor's son. The relationship grew and they began to make wedding plans. This is when the problems began. You see, about one half of the church did not think that a woman with a past such as hers was suitable for a pastor's son. The church began to argue and fig t about the matter. So they decided to have a meeting. As the people made their arguments and tensions increased, the meeting was getting completely out of hand. The young woman became very upset about all the things being brought up about her past. As she began to cry the pastor's son stood to speak. He could not bear the pain it was causing his wife to be. He began to speak and his statement was this: "My fiancee's past is not what is on trial here. What you are questioning is the ability of the blood of Jesus to wash away sin. Today you have put the blood of Jesus on trial. So, does it wash away sin or not?" The whole church began to weep as they realized that they had been slandering the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Too often, even as Christians, we bring up the past and use it as a weaponagainst our brothers and sisters. Forgiveness is a very foundational part ofthe Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. If the blood of Jesus does not cleanse the other person completely then itcannot cleanse us completely. If that is the case, then we are all in a lotof trouble. What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! End of case!!!! "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Psalm 55:23

July 10, 2008 No Exceptions to God's Love

READ Romans 5:6-9
Doctor Stanley often preaches,
“God loves you and He has a plan and purpose for your life.” Yet whenever he does, it seems that someone in the crowd believes he or she is an exception.
Dr. Stanley’s heard many reasons why people decide that verses like “For God so loved the world . . . ” don’t apply to them.
Sadly, they’ve bought into Satan’s lie.
They think they aren’t important enough to be singled out for blessing from among the billions on earth.
Or they listen to the Deceiver when he insists they’re too weak, sinful, or scared to merit the Lord’s love.
How does Dr. Stanley know God thinks you’re special?
Jesus Christ died for you.
Because of the Father’s love for the world, He sent His Son to die on the cross.
This was a sacrifice for the sins of everyone living in the past, present, and future.
None of us deserve the Father’s care and protection.
But thankfully, deserving isn’t the basis for His love.
In fact, God’s very nature is love.
He demonstrated his love through Christ’s death “while we were yet sinners”.
God cares so much for His children that He gives each one a place in His plan for the world.
Believers are gifted with the talents and attributes needed to carry out His purpose.
However, some Christians, who consider themselves exempt from His love, aren’t looking for the opportunities He sends. They’re too distracted by Satan’s lying voice.
The Lord loves you.
He says so again and again in the Bible.
Don’t take Dr. Stanley’s word for it. Read His Word for yourself.
See how much He cares.

July 9, 2008 Dealing with wrong desires

READ Psalm 145:18-21
Some believers can have wrong desires.
In fact if we work hard enough by pressing ahead of divine timing, manipulating our circumstances, and acting dishonestly, we may be able to make wishes reality.
But anything gained apart from God will prove to be empty and disappointing.
Having desires is good.
Goals drive us and set the direction for our life.
But we want our objectives to match the ones God has for us. Longings contrary to His purposes have the power to corrupt the body, mind, or spirit.
They can also cause some believers to fall into temptation.

How can we be sure our desires are right?

A godly ambition is usually specific and fixed. It’ll stand up to evaluation through prayer and Bible study.

In contrast, a wrong desire fails to meet these criteria. For instance, some people may have only a vague sense of what they want from life.
Or their yearning changes easily as circumstances shift or time passes.
Most dangerous is that goal which is pursued despite its incompatibility with a righteous lifestyle.

In such cases, the believer has neglected to consider two vital questions:
Does God want this for me?
and
Can I follow Christ and this objective at the same time?

Many of the things we desire aren’t specifically addressed in Scripture as “thou shalt” or “thou shalt not.” That’s why the Lord gives us access to the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and discernment.
We must prayerfully evaluate our longings. This will ensure we’re within God’s will and pursuing His purpose for our life.
